It originated in the Mexican city of Guadalajara, but it has since become a well-known and beloved accompaniment to many dishes all over the world.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of white vinegar 
  • 2 tablespoon of chili powder
  • 2 tablespoon of hot paprika
  • 1 cup  of water
  • 2 teaspoon of salt and
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar. (optional). 

Instructions

  • Begin by mixing the white vinegar and water together in a medium-sized saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. 
  • Once boiling, add the chili powder, salt, paprika, and sugar to the mixture and stir until all ingredients are fully cooked. 
  • Then, remove the saucepan from the stove, and allow it to sit for 4-5 minutes undisturbed, making sure not to let it cool completely.
  • Toss everything into the blender and mix for 1-2 minutes at high speed until everything has been thoroughly blended.
  • Allow the mixture to cool completely before transferring it into a container with a tight-fitting lid or mason jar.
    Your homemade Valentina hot sauce is now ready to use! 

Notes

– For a perfect balance between the spiciness and tang, add just a pinch of sugar to your homemade Valentina sauce. 
– I highly recommend white vinegar for this recipe, but you can use any type you’d like! 
– Allow the mixture to rest for several hours to reach its optimal texture.
– Some people say to use apple cider vinegar but better not to use it.
