Equipment

Ingredients

Bread Pudding:

  • 1 egg beaten, binding the ingredients together and adding richness to the pudding
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt enhancing and balancing the flavors of the pudding
  • 1/4 cup of butter melted, contributing a luscious and buttery flavor to the pudding
  • 1.5 cups of French bread cubed, providing a hearty and rustic texture to the pudding
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon infusing a warm and aromatic spice to the pudding
  • 1 cup of whole milk creating a creamy and rich base for the pudding
  • 1/6 tablespoons of dark brown sugar adding a deep and caramel-like sweetness to the dish

Vanilla Sauce:

  • 1/16 teaspoon of salt enhancing the overall flavors and balancing the sweetness of the sauce
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar adding sweetness and flavor to the sauce
  • 1/2 cup of whole milk creating a creamy and smooth texture in the sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of butter adding a velvety and rich quality to the sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon of flour serving as a thickening agent for a smooth and silky consistency
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla providing a sweet and fragrant note to the sauce

Instructions

  • First, you need to preheat the oven to 350F.
  • Mix cubed french bread, brown sugar, milk, melted butter, and beaten eggs in a large bowl until the ingredients are well-combined. Then stir in cinnamon and salt.
  • Pour mixture into a greased 8×8 inch baking pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, prepare the vanilla sauce. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and then stir in the vanilla, milk, flour, sugar, and salt. Whisk continuously until thickened and bubbly.
  • Pour warm vanilla sauce over the warm bread pudding and serve. Serve the dish in a nice bowl.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute some of the whole milk with heavy cream.
  • Use good quality French bread for the best flavor and texture.
  • Add more granulated sugar to the egg mixture if you like your bread pudding extra sweet.
  • Adding raisins, dried cranberries, or chopped nuts can add flavor and texture to the bread pudding.
