Equipment

  • measuring spoon
  • Cutting Board
  • bowl
  • Skillet
  • Measuring Cup

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of bacon sliced into strips, adding a savory and crispy texture to the recipe
  • Salt to taste enhancing and balancing the flavors of the dish
  • Pepper to taste adding a hint of spiciness and depth to the overall taste
  • 2 tablespoons of flour serving as a thickening agent to create a smooth and luscious texture
  • 1 Onion diced, bringing a sweet and aromatic flavor to the dish
  • 2 cups of organic whole milk creating a creamy and velvety base for the sauce
  • 1 Green pepper diced, providing a fresh and crisp element to the dish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place bacon strips in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Bake for 20 minutes, flipping once halfway through. The bacon should be crispy and golden brown when finished.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the diced green pepper and onion. Cook for 7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the vegetables are softened.
  • Add the bacon strips to the skillet and cook for 2 minutes more. Sprinkle the flour over the contents of the skillet, stir well, and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
  • Slowly pour in the milk and stir until the mixture thickens slightly.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve with your favorite sides or as an accompaniment to eggs, toast, or pancakes.

Notes

• For a healthier version of Old Timers Bacon, use turkey bacon instead of regular bacon.
• If you want to save some time, use pre-cooked bacon or microwaveable bacon strips instead of baking the bacon.
• To add some flavor to Old Timers Bacon, add spices such as garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, oregano, or thyme.
• For a richer flavor, substitute cream for milk.
• If you want a creamy version of Old Timers Bacon, add shredded cheese and stir until melted.
