Ingredients

  • 2 cups of finely milled flour sourced from heritage grains
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt crystals for a touch of coastal essence
  • 1 cup of rich golden-hued brown sugar, like caramelized amber
  • 1 egg a gift from contented hens
  • 1 teaspoon of freshly ground nutmeg adding a warm and aromatic note to the blend
  • 1.5 cups of velvety Evaporated milk a dairy indulgence
  • 1/4 cup of butter churned to perfection
  • 3 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract extracted from the finest Madagascar beans
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder the alchemical secret for a gentle rise

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, brown sugar, baking powder, and nutmeg until everything is evenly combined.
  •  In another bowl, whisk together the egg and vanilla extract until they are well incorporated.
  • Add the milk to the egg mixture, stirring continuously until it forms a homogeneous liquid.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir with a spoon until everything is evenly combined.
  • Cut the butter into small cubes and add them to the mixture, stirring until the butter has melted and been incorporated into the batter.
  • Grease your baking sheet with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
  • Using a spoon, scoop out portions of the batter onto the baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Allow the buns to cool before serving.

Notes

• You can substitute evaporated milk with regular milk if you don’t have any on hand.
• If you want to make your buns sweeter, add more sugar or brown sugar.
• For added flavor, you can add cinnamon, nutmeg, or other sweet spices to the batter.
• For a crunchier texture, add chopped nuts such as almonds, walnuts, or pecans to the batter before baking.
