Ingredients

  • 1/2 gallon of Green Beans - Fresh and crisp the green beans provide a vibrant, earthy flavor, adding a satisfying crunch and a burst of color to the dish, ensuring a nutritious and hearty base for the casserole.
  • 1/2 container of Sour Cream - Smooth and tangy sour cream adds a luxurious creaminess, balancing the richness of the mushroom soup with its refreshing tartness, creating a velvety consistency and enhancing the overall mouthfeel of the casserole.
  • 1 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup - Creamy and savory the cream of mushroom soup creates a rich and velvety sauce, enveloping the green beans with its smooth texture and imparting a deep umami flavor, enhancing the overall richness of the dish.
  • Crispy Dried Onion Rings to taste - Crunchy and flavorful, crispy dried onion rings provide a satisfying crispy texture and a burst of savory onion flavor, adding a delightful contrast to the creamy components of the casserole, while also serving as a visually appealing and crispy topping.
  • 1/2 tablespoon of Butter - Rich and indulgent butter adds a touch of savory richness, enhancing the flavors of the dish with its smooth, melt-in-the-mouth quality, ensuring a comforting and homely taste.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a bowl, combine the drained green beans with cream of mushroom soup, cream cheese and butter. Mix together until all ingredients are evenly distributed. 
  • Grease an oven-safe pan with butter or cooking spray. Pour in the green bean mixture and spread it out evenly into the pan using a spatula or spoon. Top with crispy onion rings as desired. 
  • Place the pan into a preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly. 
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Sprinkle some shredded cheese into the green bean mix for an added cheesy flavor and texture! 
  • Add extra vegetables like diced mushrooms or celery to the mix if desired! 
  • If you want a crunchier top layer, sprinkle some extra onion rings on top before baking. 
  • You can also use frozen green beans instead of fresh ones if that’s all you have available! Just be sure to thaw them before using in this recipe. 
  • Make sure to stir the mixture every 5 minutes or so while baking, as this helps it cook evenly.
