Notes

  • Start with a small amount of Issou spice mix and adjust according to taste. You can always add more but it’s best to start with a little and build up the flavor.
  • If you’re cooking for people who don’t enjoy spicy food, reduce the amount of chili powder and add more nutmeg or cinnamon instead.
  • Try adding some Issou spice mix to your favorite soups or stews for an extra kick of flavor!
  • Add some Issou spice mix to your favorite marinades or sauces for an extra layer of flavor.
  • Don’t forget that the hibiscus flower adds a unique flavor and aroma, so be sure to include it in your recipes!
  • If you don’t have access to all the ingredients listed, feel free to substitute with other spices you have available, such as cayenne pepper, paprika, or even turmeric.
  • For a more intense flavor, try toasting the Issou spice mix before adding it to your recipe. This will help bring out all of the flavors and aromas.
  • If you’re looking for even more heat, add some extra Jamaika pepper to the mix.
