Equipment

  • paper towel
  • Blender or food processor
  • bowl
  • and plastic wrap

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp of vanilla
  • 3 1/2 oz of milk
  • 12 oz of cherries
  • 1/2 lemon zest
  • 3 1/2 of sugar

Instructions

  • Begin by removing the stems and pits from the fresh, ripe cherries. Use a cherry pitter or small knife for this task, ensuring that each cherry is prepped to perfection.
  • Rinse the cherries under cold water, gently patting them dry with a paper towel. With precision, chop the cherries into small pieces and transfer them to a blender or food processor.
  • Along with the chopped cherries, add in the milk of your choice, a hint of lemon zest, a sprinkle of sugar, and a touch of vanilla for balance. Blend until the ingredients are thoroughly combined and smooth to create the perfect base for your gelato.
  • Take the mixture and transfer it into a bowl, covering it with plastic wrap. Let the mixture chill in the fridge for a minimum of 2 hours, or leave it overnight for an even richer flavor.
  • Once your gelato base is chilled and ready, churn it to creamy perfection according to the manufacturer’s instructions using an ice cream maker. If you don’t have one, no worries – simply use a shallow dish or pan and follow the freezing and mixing process until your gelato reaches its desired consistency. Scoop into bowls or cones, savoring every bite of your delectable homemade cherry gelato.

Notes

  • Use ripe, fresh cherries for the best flavor.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, strain out the cherry skins before blending.
  • For a more intense cherry flavor, add in some pitted whole cherries during the churning process.
  • Don’t skip chilling the mixture before churning – this step helps incorporate air into the gelato for a lighter and smoother texture.
