Equipment

Ingredients

  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • Salt and pepper
  • 800 g spaghetti dried
  • 2 lb ground beef
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Finely chopped parsley
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp white sugar
  • 4 dried bay leaves
  • 2 cans 28 oz crushed tomato
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 4 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 2 onion
  • 4 beef bouillon cubes
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  • To begin, finely chop four garlic cloves and a handful of parsley. Mince the garlic to release its bold flavor, and chop the parsley for a fresh pop of color in your dish.
  • In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add 800 g of spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until it is al dente. Once cooked, drain and set aside for later use.
  • Moving on to our savory bolognese sauce, heat up three tablespoons of olive oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat.
  • Once the oil is heated, add in two pounds of ground beef and cook until it turns a rich brown color. As you cook the beef, be sure to break it up with a wooden spoon for even browning.
  • Now, time to add in our aromatic flavors. Stir in the minced garlic and finely chopped onion into the skillet and let them cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until they are softened and fragrant. With the beef now cooked and aromatics infused, it’s time to add in the remaining ingredients. Pour in one cup of beef broth, one tablespoon of white sugar, four dried bay leaves, two cans of 28 oz crushed tomatoes, a quarter cup of tomato paste, four sprigs of fresh thyme, and four beef bouillon cubes into the skillet. Bring the bolognese sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 30 minutes on medium-low heat, stirring occasionally. This will allow all the flavors to meld together and create a rich and hearty sauce.
  • As the sauce simmers, take this time to taste and season with salt and pepper according to your preference. This is where you can make it more or less savory based on your taste buds.
  • Once the bolognese sauce is done simmering, it’s time to serve and enjoy! Place a generous helping of spaghetti onto a plate and top it off with the hearty bolognese sauce. Garnish with chopped parsley and parmesan cheese for an extra layer of flavor.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, you can omit the ground beef and use a combination of mushrooms and lentils instead.
  • To make this dish gluten-free, substitute regular spaghetti with your favorite gluten-free pasta.
