Equipment

Ingredients

  • 4 teaspoons basil dried flakes
  • 2 teaspoons oregano-dried flakes
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons rosemary dried flakes
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fennel ground

Instructions

  • In a spice grinder or mortar and pestle, grind together the basil flakes, oregano flakes, garlic powder, rosemary flakes, cayenne pepper, and fennel ground.
  • Transfer the freshly-ground spices to an airtight container. Store in a cool dry place for up to 6 months.

Notes

  • When using this spice blend for cooking, make sure to add it towards the end of cooking. The herbs and spices can burn easily if they are exposed to direct heat for too long.
  • Also, keep in mind that the flavor will become more potent as it cooks so be careful not to overdo it. Start off with a small amount and then adjust according to your taste preference.
  • When storing the spice blend, make sure to keep it in an airtight container. This will prevent oxidation and ensure that the flavor remains fresh for up to 6 months.
