  • 1 whisk or spoon
  • 1 roasting tray
  • 1 paring knife or small knife

Ingredients

For the Brussels Sprouts:

  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt - Half a teaspoon of sea salt carefully measured, to season the Brussels sprouts, bringing out their inherent flavors and adding a touch of savory goodness.
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil - A measured tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil known for its rich and fruity flavor, which adds a luscious and smooth texture while enhancing the natural taste of the Brussels sprouts.
  • 1/2 lb Brussels sprouts cleaned - A half-pound of Brussels sprouts, meticulously cleaned and prepped, providing a hearty and nutritious vegetable base for this delectable dish.

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes - Half a teaspoon of red pepper flakes adding a burst of fiery heat and a touch of spiciness, creating a tantalizing contrast to the sweetness of the maple syrup and honey.
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple syrup - Half a teaspoon of maple syrup offering a natural sweetness that balances the flavors and adds a subtle caramel-like note, enhancing the overall taste experience.
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika - A dash of smoked paprika carefully measured, providing a distinct smoky aroma and flavor that enhances the overall depth and complexity of the sauce.
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt - A quarter teaspoon of sea salt ensuring the sauce is properly seasoned, harmonizing the flavors and bringing out the best in the other ingredients.
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted - A tablespoon of melted butter, adding a rich and creamy component to the sauce, creating a smooth and velvety texture that coats the Brussels sprouts beautifully.
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder or Calabrian chili powder - A quarter teaspoon of chili powder or Calabrian chili powder depending on your preference, infusing the sauce with a delightful kick of heat and smoky flavors that elevate the dish.
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey - Half a teaspoon of honey providing a delicate sweetness that complements the other ingredients, contributing to a well-rounded and harmonious flavor profile.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to a scorching 450°F.
  • Take the brussels sprouts, give them a good scrubbing, and then cut each one in half lengthwise.
  • Place them on a baking sheet covered with either parchment paper or aluminium foil, before drizzling them with olive oil and sprinkling on some sea salt. Give them a good stir so that everything is evenly coated.
  • Pop them in the oven and roast for 20-25 minutes or until they reach a golden brown and crispy consistency.
  • In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, chilli powder, smoked paprika, sea salt, red pepper flakes, maple syrup and honey to create a sauce.
  • Once the brussels sprouts are delectably golden and crispy, remove them from the oven and pour the prepared sauce over them. Mix everything together until all of the sprouts are evenly coated.
  • Serve hot alongside your favourite accompaniment.

Notes

– You can also add garlic to the sauce for an extra flavour kick.
– To get extra crispy Brussels sprouts, leave them in the oven a few minutes longer.
– For an even quicker dinner option, use pre-shredded Brussels sprouts instead of cutting each one in half.
