Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour – 1.3 gram
  • Boiling water- 1 cup
  • Egg- 1
  • Salt- 1/2 tsp
  • Walnuts – 1 cup
  • Sugar- 1 cup
  • Dates – 300 gram
  • Butter- 4 tsp
  • Baking powder – 1 tsp
  • Baking soda- 1 tsp

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and generously grease a 9x5-inch baking pan with oil or butter.
  • To make the dates mixture, place them in a medium bowl and pour boiling water over top.
  • Stir in baking soda until evenly mixed and let sit for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • In another large bowl, blend together sugar and egg until light and creamy.
  • Add the dates mixture, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, walnuts and butter to the bowl. Mix with a spatula or spoon until everything is completely combined.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • If you don’t have dates, you can substitute them with raisins or dried cranberries.
  • Make sure to mix the batter until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
  • To make this recipe vegan, replace the egg with a flax egg and use vegan butter instead of regular butter.
  • Soak the dates in boiling water for 10 minutes and make sure to stir occasionally to help soften them up. This will help create a moist texture for your bread.
  • If you want an extra nutty flavor, add chopped almonds or pecans to the batter.
