Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 large sashimi grade Ahi tuna steaks about 1 1/2 pounds
  • 1 shallot sliced (or Maui onions)

  • 1/2 cup chopped green onion
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce look for a gluten-free brand
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili garlic sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Begin by preparing all of the ingredients that you need. Slice the shallot or Maui onions finely, chop the green onion, and set aside. Measure out the soy sauce, sesame oil, chili garlic sauce, and sesame seeds.
  • Cut the Ahi tuna steaks into cubes and place them in a bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the soy sauce, sesame oil, chili garlic sauce, and sesame seeds until everything is thoroughly combined. Pour this marinade over the cubed tuna and mix to make sure that all of the fish is evenly coated.
  • Once the tuna has been marinated, add in the shallot or Maui onions and green onion to the bowl and mix until everything is combined.
  • Cover the Poke Bowl and place it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to combine and create an even tastier dish!
  • Once you are ready to serve, spoon some of the marinated tuna into a bowl or onto a plate. It can be served as is or with some steamed rice and/or vegetables. Enjoy your Roy's Ahi Poke!

Notes

  • If you want to add a bit of extra flavor, try adding some fresh ginger to the marinade.
  • Try using different types of chili garlic sauces for an interesting flavor twist.
  • Always use sashimi-grade tuna for raw dishes like this one - it is fresher and safer to eat!
  • Make sure to discard any leftover marinade after it has been used, as it can spoil quickly.
  • If you are not planning on eating the poke bowl immediately, store it in an airtight container and consume it within one day for best results.
  • Feel free to experiment with other ingredients to make your own version of this delicious Hawaiian classic!
