Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of finely diced onion a subtle layer of aromatic sweetness
  • 16 ounces of shredded mozzarella cheese a velvety blanket of dairy richness
  • 4 pinches of Italian seasoning a blend of herbs for a Mediterranean touch
  • 2 pounds of premium ground beef a hearty foundation for culinary excellence
  • 32 ounces of luscious tomato sauce a vibrant symphony of tomatoes
  • 16 ounces of sliced baby bella mushrooms earthy delights for added depth
  • 6 cloves of garlic minced to release their pungent and aromatic magic
  • 28 ounces of cream-style cottage cheese drained and creamy for a luxurious texture
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce a dash of umami for savory perfection
  • 2 teaspoons of golden honey a touch of sweetness to balance flavors
  • 6 eggs beaten to create a silky and luscious binding for the dish
  • 16 ounces of fresh spinach washed and patted dry, vibrant greens for a burst of freshness

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, sauté the beef and onion until the beef is browned; drain off any excess fat from the pan. Add Italian seasoning, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce and mushrooms; reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes; finish off with a drizzle of honey.
  • Spread the beef mixture across the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish and layer on top with spinach leaves, cottage cheese and mozzarella cheese. Pour beaten eggs over all of the ingredients evenly.
  • Place in preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is heated through. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before cutting into generous squares for serving.

Notes

–  Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
– For additional flavor, add Parmesan cheese and fresh herbs such as oregano and basil.
– To make a vegetarian version of this dish, substitute the beef with plant-based meat crumbles.
