Equipment

  • microwave
  • baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

Ingredients

For Candy-Coated Cake Pops:

  • Candy melts a vibrant assortment for a splash of color and flavor
  • Cake dough freshly baked and crumbled for a delightful base
  • Vegetable shortening a touch to enhance the smoothness of the candy coating
  • Lollipop sticks sturdy companions for a delightful handheld treat
  • Any decorations a creative selection to add personality and charm

Instructions

  • Begin by melting the candy melts in a double boiler or in the microwave. Make sure to stir constantly until it is melted and smooth.
  • Once the candy melts are melted, add the vegetable shortening and mix until combined. Take a spoonful of cake dough and roll it into small balls, about one inch in diameter.
  • Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for about 20 minutes or until the cake pops are firm.
  • Once the cake pops are firm, dip a lollipop stick into the melted candy melts and insert it into each of the cake pop balls. Be sure to push it in firmly so the cake pops will stay together.
  • Dip each of the cake pop balls into the melted candy melts and, using a spoon or spatula, cover all sides evenly. Place them back on the baking sheet and let them set.
  • Once they have cooled, you can add any decorations you like such as sprinkles, chocolate chips, nuts, and other candies. Once the cake pops have set, they are ready to be enjoyed.

Notes

• For best results ensure that your cake mix is completely cooked before you start making the cake pops.
• Make sure to stir the melted candy melts constantly while melting it, as it can burn easily.
• If the cake pops don’t stay together once you have inserted the lollipop sticks, try adding a little more vegetable shortening to the mixture.
• Have fun with it! You can create your own unique decorations or use some of our suggestions.
