Begin by melting the candy melts in a double boiler or in the microwave. Make sure to stir constantly until it is melted and smooth.
Once the candy melts are melted, add the vegetable shortening and mix until combined. Take a spoonful of cake dough and roll it into small balls, about one inch in diameter.
Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for about 20 minutes or until the cake pops are firm.
Once the cake pops are firm, dip a lollipop stick into the melted candy melts and insert it into each of the cake pop balls. Be sure to push it in firmly so the cake pops will stay together.
Dip each of the cake pop balls into the melted candy melts and, using a spoon or spatula, cover all sides evenly. Place them back on the baking sheet and let them set.
Once they have cooled, you can add any decorations you like such as sprinkles, chocolate chips, nuts, and other candies. Once the cake pops have set, they are ready to be enjoyed.
