Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of Salt This essential seasoning not only enhances the flavor but also helps in strengthening the bread's structure and giving it that perfect savory bite.
  • 1 package of Active dry yeast This small packet contains the key ingredient for achieving a delightful fluffy texture in your bread, imparting it with a warm, homemade aroma.
  • 1/8 tablespoon of Granulated sugar Just a hint of this sweet crystalline substance is used to kick-start the yeast's fermentation process resulting in a perfect balance of sweetness in your bread.
  • 1 cup of Scalded lukewarm milk divided into 1/2 cup portions Lukewarm milk brings a soothing warmth to your dough, making it easy for the yeast to thrive and providing a soft, tender crumb. Scalding the milk imparts a mild nutty undertone to your bread.
  • 1/8 tablespoon of Vegetable shortening, Adding just a touch of this fat source lends a soft tender crumb to your bread, making it irresistibly moist and flavorful.
  • butter, melted the melted butter not only adds a beautiful shine to your bread but also infuses it with a delicate, buttery aroma and flavor.
  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour (The foundation of your bread) this versatile flour forms the backbone of your recipe, giving structure and body to your loaf. Its fine texture ensures a smooth, homogenous dough.
  • 1 Large Egg rich in proteins and fats, provides your bread with a lovely golden hue and a subtle richness to the overall flavor profile.

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized bowl, mix together yeast, sugar, and salt until everything is thoroughly combined.
  • Add the eggs and butter or margarine to the mixture.
  • Pour 1 cup of warm milk into a large mixing bowl and add the yeast combination. Stir it until completely blended.
  • Incorporate the remaining lukewarm milk into an electric mixer together with the yeast mixture. While running the mixer, add 1 cup of all-purpose flour at a time and knead the dough for approximately 5-7 minutes until it has become elastic and smooth.
  • Place the dough into a lightly greased bowl and cover it with plastic wrap then let it expand for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and break it into 12 even pieces. Shape each piece into a round shape and arrange them on a lightly greased baking sheet. Cover the rolls with plastic wrap again and let them rise for an additional 45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, brush the top of the rolls with melted butter then bake for 20-25 minutes or until they become golden brown. Wait for them to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh yeast instead of dry yeast.
  • If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little bit more flour.
  • If you want soft and fluffy rolls, increase the amount of fat (shortening or margarine).
  • To get golden brown dinner rolls, brush them with melted butter before baking.
  • Do not over-bake the rolls as it will make them dry and hard.
