Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a baking sheet with butter and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, butter, and vegetable shortening. With a fork or pastry cutter, work the ingredients together until you have a crumbly mixture.
Add in the buttermilk and mix until a soft dough forms.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until it is pliable about 10 times.
Roll out the dough to ½ inch thickness. Using a biscuit cutter or glass, cut out the biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with butter, jam, or honey!
Store leftover biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven before serving.
