Equipment

  • 1 Large mixing bowls
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Tortilla press (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Melted Butter
  • 1/8 cup Warm water
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup luke warm milk
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (cinnamon powder)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 cups whole wheat or all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp kosher salt

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine butter and flour until it forms a coarse texture.
  • Add in water, sugar, warm milk, salt, and baking powder, and mix until everything is well combined.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into circles of desired size and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Whisk together eggs and cinnamon in a separate bowl. Brush each gordita with egg mixture before baking in a preheated 350°F oven for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Remove gorditas from the oven and let cool. Serve warm with your favorite accompaniment!

Notes

  • If you don’t have time to roll out the dough, you can just flatten it with a rolling pin.
  • Make sure not to overwork the dough or it will become tough.
  • Make sure to brush the gorditas with the egg mixture before baking for a golden brown color.
  • You can also add other spices like nutmeg or allspice to the gorditas for extra flavor.
  • For a sweeter version, you can sprinkle sugar on top of each gordita before baking.
