Equipment

  • a bowl
  • a measuring cup
  • a whisk

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 3/4 cup of creamy and tangy buttermilk sourced from grass-fed cows for superior richness
  • 1/2 teaspoon of hand-harvested Himalayan pink salt enhancing the flavors with a subtle mineral note
  • 2 cups of meticulously sifted all-purpose flour plus an additional 1/4 cup for dusting, ensuring a flawless texture
  • 1/2 tablespoon of artisanal baking powder expertly measured for the perfect rise
  • 1/2 tablespoon of delicate organic cane sugar adding a touch of natural sweetness
  • 1/2 cup of premium-grade Crisco shortening carefully crafted for a tender and flaky texture

For Brushing:

  • 1/2 tablespoon of golden brown sugar infused with hints of caramel and molasses, providing a delightful sweetness
  • 1/4 cup of velvety melted butter derived from the finest cream, adding a luxurious richness

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F (232 C).
  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the shortening until it resembles small pea-sized pieces.
  • Make a well in the center of the mixture and slowly pour in the buttermilk while stirring. Mix until the dough is soft and pliable, but not too sticky.
  • Dust your work surface with some of the remaining flour and turn out the dough onto it. Knead a few times and then roll out to around 1/2-inch thick. Cut into desired biscuit shapes using either a biscuit cutter or a sharp knife.
  • Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush them with melted butter. Sprinkle the brown sugar over each biscuit and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your homemade Hardee's Biscuits!

Notes

-If you find that the dough is too sticky, add a bit more flour until it's easier to work with.
-You can also add some herbs and spices to your biscuit mix for extra flavor.
-For even crispier biscuits, use cold butter instead of melted butter.
-To make sure your biscuits rise evenly, make sure not to overwork the dough.
-If you want your biscuits to be extra flaky, use cold shortening for the fat in the dough and cut it into very small pieces before mixing it with the flour.
