  • 2 tbsp hot pepper vinegar
  • 3 cups white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 cups Tomato Ketchup
  • 3 tbsp salt
  • 1/2 bottle of Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tbsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/3 cup dry mustard

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan, combine the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, hot pepper vinegar, Tabasco sauce, butter, salt, and ground black pepper. Stir until well combined.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the vinegar and dry mustard. Simmer for an additional 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Notes

  • Taste the sauce as you go and adjust seasonings to your preference.
  • To thicken the sauce, simmer without stirring for an extra 10 minutes.
  • For a smoky flavor, add 1/4 cup of liquid smoke to the sauce.
  • For a tangier flavor, add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar.
