Equipment

  • 1 pot

Ingredients

  • 9 vibrant and spicy jalapenos providing a zesty kick to the salsa.
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lime juice sourced from ripe limes, adding a tangy and citrusy brightness to the salsa.
  • 1 clove of pungent garlic minced to perfection, releasing its aromatic essence and enhancing the salsa's depth.
  • 3/8 cup of sunflower oil a light and heart-healthy option, adding a smooth and velvety texture to the salsa, complementing the heat and acidity of the jalapenos.
  • 3/8 teaspoon of fine salt balance the flavors and enhance the natural taste of the ingredients.

Instructions

  • Begin by washing and drying your jalapenos, then slice them in half lengthwise and remove the seeds from each pepper.
  • Next, mince the garlic cloves and combine with lime juice and salt in a small bowl to make a paste.
  • Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it is hot but not smoking. Add the jalapenos to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes or until they are lightly browned on both sides. Remove from heat and set aside on a plate lined with paper towels to drain off any excess oil.
  • Once cooled, place all jalapenos into a food processor along with garlic paste, and blend until completely smooth.
  • Transfer the salsa to a bowl or airtight container to store.

Notes

– To reduce the heat level of the jalapeno peppers, remove as many seeds as you can before adding them into your processor.
– For extra flavor add in a tablespoon of fresh cilantro leaves when blending.
– If you don’t have a food processor, you can use an immersion blender instead for this recipe.
– When storing in the refrigerator be sure to keep it covered tightly so it doesn’t pick up flavors from other items in your fridge.
