Bring a generous pot of apple juice, brown sugar, and cardamom pods to a rolling boil. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes while stirring occasionally.
Drawing off the stovetop, incorporate grain alcohol, vodka, nutmeg, ginger, star anise pods and cloves into the mixture. Stir until each element has been thoroughly blended, then set aside to cool.
Once cooled, strain the mixture into a secure bottle or container and add cinnamon sticks and vanilla extract. After sealing tightly, shake vigorously for an ideal combination of flavors.
Place in the refrigerator to steep for at least 3 to 4 weeks before serving. This extends the time needed for all flavors to come together.
