Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 lb boneless beef chuck steak
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 6 tsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 8 tbsp dry red wine
  • 1 cup canned reduced-sodium beef broth
  • 2 pcs finely chopped onions
  • 6 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp  dried thyme leaves

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the onions and sauté until softened.
  • Season the beef chuck steak with pepper, then add it to the skillet. Cook for 4 minutes per side or until lightly browned.
  • Lower the heat to medium and pour in the red wine. Cook for 1 minute, or until most of the liquid has evaporated.
  • Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme to the skillet. Stir everything together and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
  • Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the flour until well combined. Return to medium-high heat and cook for 1 minute or until lightly browned.
  • Transfer the steak to a plate, cover with aluminum foil, and let rest for at least 10 minutes before serving.
  • Your delicious Sam Choy’s Chopped Steak is ready to serve!

Notes

  • Make sure to use a good quality beef chuck steak for the best results.
  • To give it an extra touch, try adding diced bell peppers to the sauce.
  • If you want to make this dish spicier, add some red pepper flakes or hot sauce when cooking the steak.
  • You can substitute red wine with white wine, apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, or even just water.
  • You can also use this chopped steak as a topping for nachos, tacos, or even in sandwiches!
