Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 Burger buns
  • 1/2 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 cup of taro root chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp of carrot shredded
  • 1/4 cup of breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp onion chopped
  • 1/2 tbsp of soy sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add taro root and garlic powder, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Mix in carrots, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper; remove from heat and cool slightly.
  • Combine onion and soy sauce in a separate bowl; stir into taro root mixture.
  • Divide mixture into four equal portions, forming each one into a patty; place on parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, flipping once after 10 minutes.
  • Toast burger buns in the toaster or oven-safe skillet over medium heat.
  • Assemble burgers with patty, and fill with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Grate the taro root for an extra crunchy texture.
  • Use freshly toasted buns for added flavor and texture.
  • Try adding a few drops of hot sauce for extra spice.
  • Add slices of tomato or avocado.
  • Serve with lettuce and onion for an added crunch.
  • If you don’t like taro, try using sweet potatoes instead.
  • Add a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt as a topping.
  • If you are looking to make your burger vegan, use plant-based cheese and condiments such as hummus or avocado instead of dairy products.
  • Try adding a few slices of bacon.
  • For a healthier option, use whole wheat buns.
  • Grill the taro burger patties on an outdoor grill for added smokiness.
  • For a low-carb option, try using lettuce wraps instead of buns.
