Ingredients

For the Burger Patties:

  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter divided
  • 1 large onion thinly sliced
  • 3 pounds of lean ground beef
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup of seasoned breadcrumbs
  • ¾ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic seasoning salt
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Slap Ya Mama seasoning
  • 10 slices of thick Texas toast
  • 10 slices of Monterey Jack cheese
  • 15 ½ ounce bottle of creamy black pepper sauce

For the Special Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • cup Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon of your favorite barbecue sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of hot sauce
  • ½ teaspoon Slap Ya Mama seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill
  • 1 teaspoon of honey

Instructions

  • Making this sandwich is straightforward. You’ll find pleasure in the smells and the sounds as you cook. Now, let’s break it down step by step.

Step 1: Gather Your Tools

  • Before you start, get your knives, cutting board, and a skillet. It helps to be ready to rumble in the kitchen.

Step 2: Butter Is Key

  • Take two tablespoons of unsalted butter. Spread it evenly on one side of each slice of Texas toast. This is a crucial step. The butter gives that vibrant color and needed flavor.

Step 3: Assemble Your Sandwich

  • Now, let’s build. On the unbuttered side of one slice, layer five slices of Monterey Jack cheese. Feel free to add extra layers if you’re feeling adventurous. Top it with another slice of bread, buttered side up. Repeat for the second sandwich.

Step 4: Heat the Skillet

  • Heat your skillet over medium-low. Once it’s hot and sizzling, place both sandwiches in the skillet. Listen closely.

Step 5: Give It Time

  • Cook for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Gently press down with a spatula—it helps blend the flavors beautifully.

Step 6: Flip and Repeat

  • Carefully flip the sandwiches. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes. Your patience will reward you with that perfect golden toast.

Step 7: Add Sauce

  • Once done, remove the sandwiches from the skillet. Spread creamy black pepper sauce on top, enhancing the flavor profile.

Step 8: Slice and Serve

  • Cut the sandwiches diagonally—that’s how you know they’re ready for sharing (or not). Enjoy!

Notes

  • Use quality bread: Don’t skimp on texture. The better the bread, the better the sandwich.
  • Experiment with cheeses: Mix and match different cheeses for added depth—think sharp cheddar or gooey mozzarella.
  • Low and slow wins the race: Patience pays off. Don’t rush the cooking; let that cheese melt beautifully.
  • Add extras: Consider tomatoes or bacon to levels the flavor.
  • Perfect your flip: A clean spatula helps maintain everything intact when flipping the sandwich.
